Greek born Dr. John Pierrakos attended medical school at Columbia in New York. He became an American citizen when he was drafted into the US Army in 1944. He remained in New York to study psychiatry. His mentor was Wilhelm Reich, but disassociated with him after two years when Reich's practices were being questioned by the American Psychiatric Association for fear of jeopardizing his own medical credential.s
He later worked with Eva Broch, a spiritual channel who created The Pathwork of Self-Transformation. They fell in love and married. In his autobiography Pierrakos wrote this about Eva "...she awakened my interest in the spiritual dimension of consciousness." Core Energetics came about due to his accumulated studies from psychiatry, Reich, Bioenergetics, Eva's spirit guide, and Pathwork.
