This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they're a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
~ Rumi ~
Life can be a persistent teacher and in this beautiful poem by Rumi, we are reminded of the truth that if we embrace and learn from our experiences, then they serve to mould us into a better person.
So, next time you are faced with an unpleasant experience, instead of complaining or getting disheartened, embrace the experience and take a moment to reflect on the value of the lesson and use the opportunity to learn and grow. Consider how you can apply the learning’s; what you need to change in your inner and outer reality in order to move forward.
It’s easy to get caught up in the trap of resisting these unwanted experiences and wanting things to be different. But when we cultivate deep acceptance and learn to flow with life with grace and ease, we allow an opening for clear guidance and appropriate action to come to light.
